Asterism

The star effect: four or six rays of light gliding across a domed stone as it moves, created by reflection off dense, oriented silk. Value follows the sharpness, centring and completeness of the rays, then the body colour beneath them. The effect requires a cabochon cut. Star goods are also produced by diffusion treatment and by glass filling, so the treatment line matters here as much as anywhere.
