Certificate mismatch

Any disagreement between a stone and the report accompanying it: weight, measurements or inclusions that do not correspond. Causes range from innocent recutting to clerical error to fraud, in which a genuine report travels with a different stone. The defence is routine. Verify the report number with the laboratory, measure and weigh the stone against the paper, and treat any unexplained gap as a reason to stop until re-certification settles it.
