Provenance
The documented history of a stone: where it has been, who has owned it, which reports and invoices have travelled with it. Distinct from origin, which is where the stone formed; provenance is the paper trail after it surfaced. Verifiable provenance from a named collection or an auction record adds value, and every transaction is a chance to extend it. Keep the reports, keep the invoices, and pass them on when the stone moves.
