Tone

How light or dark a colour is, independent of how pure it is. Fine coloured stones tend to sit in the medium range: dark enough for the colour to register, light enough for it to breathe. Too dark and extinction eats the display; too light and the colour thins. Trade names such as royal blue bundle tone and saturation together, which is why the report's own wording is the better record.
