Trapiche

A rare growth pattern in which six sectors radiate from a central core, separated by dark spokes. Famous in Colombian emerald and occasionally seen in ruby and sapphire. It is structure, not optics: the pattern is fixed in the crystal and does not move with the light, which distinguishes it from a star. Judged on the sharpness and symmetry of the spokes and the colour of the sectors between them.
